Everything people ask before they book
Below are answers to the questions we hear most often about renting a roll-off dumpster from NWJ Dumpster Rental. If a question isn't covered here, call our dispatch team directly at (862) 307-9238 and we'll walk through the details of your specific job.
Part 1
Pricing & booking
How much does a dumpster rental cost?
Most rentals run roughly $350 to $750 depending on container size, the type of debris, and how far the job site is from our Newark yard. We quote a flat price over the phone before scheduling delivery, so there are no surprises when the container is picked up.
What affects the price of a dumpster rental?
Container size is the biggest factor, followed by the type of material being disposed of (heavy debris like concrete or shingles costs more to haul than mixed household junk), the weight of the load, and how long the container stays on site beyond a standard rental period.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Rentals are booked for a standard rental period, generally around 7 days, which covers most residential and small commercial projects. If a job runs longer, call ahead and we can extend the rental or arrange a swap.
How do I book a dumpster with NWJ Dumpster Rental?
Call (862) 307-9238 or email info@nwjdumpsterrental.com with your project type, location, and preferred delivery date. Our dispatch team will recommend a size, quote a price, and confirm a delivery window, generally the same day or the next business day.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, credit card, and debit card. Payment details are confirmed when you book, and you'll know the full cost before the container arrives.
Part 2
Sizes & placement
What dumpster sizes are available?
We offer five sizes: 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard roll-off containers. Each is sized for a different scale of project, from a single-room cleanout to a full demolition.
What size dumpster do I need for my project?
A 10-yard container typically handles small cleanouts, garage clear-outs, or a single-room renovation. A 15 or 20-yard unit covers larger remodels, roofing jobs, or a full basement cleanout. A 30 or 40-yard container is generally used for whole-house cleanouts, new construction, or demolition debris. Our dispatch team can help match a size to your specific job over the phone.
How much driveway or curb space does a dumpster need?
Plan on roughly the length of the container itself plus a few extra feet on each side and overhead clearance for the delivery truck. A 10 or 15-yard container fits in most residential driveways, while a 30 or 40-yard unit needs a longer, wider, and more open placement area.
Does weight matter as much as size?
Yes. Every container has a weight limit included in the rental price, and heavy materials like concrete, dirt, or roofing shingles can hit that limit well before the container is visually full. If your job involves dense debris, tell us when you book so we can recommend the right size and set expectations on weight.
Part 3
Service area & scheduling
What towns does NWJ Dumpster Rental serve?
We serve 17 towns across Essex, Union, and Hudson counties: Newark, East Orange, Irvington, Bloomfield, Belleville, Nutley, Montclair, West Orange, Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, and Livingston in Essex County; Elizabeth, Hillside, and Union Township in Union County; and Kearny and Harrison in Hudson County.
Can I get same-day delivery?
Same-day delivery is often available for calls placed earlier in the day, depending on truck availability and your location within our service area. Next-business-day delivery is the standard fallback, and we'll always tell you honestly which one applies when you call.
Do you serve areas just outside your listed towns?
Our regular routes cover the 17 towns listed above. If your project is just outside that area, call (862) 307-9238 and we'll let you know whether we can accommodate it, since it depends on the specific location and our route schedule that day.
What are your hours?
We're open Monday through Saturday, 7:00am to 7:00pm, for both deliveries and pickups. We're closed Sundays.
Do you deliver during winter storms or after flooding?
We schedule around nor'easters and heavy winter weather from November through March, sometimes moving deliveries earlier or later to avoid a storm window. After flash flooding events, we prioritize storm-debris pickups in the hardest-hit streets first and communicate delays directly rather than leaving customers guessing.
Part 4
What can and can't go in the dumpster
What items are not allowed in the dumpster?
Hazardous waste, paint and solvents, tires, batteries, propane tanks, refrigerant-containing appliances (like refrigerators and air conditioners), and asbestos-containing materials cannot go in a standard roll-off container. These require special handling and disposal under state and federal regulations.
What can I put in the dumpster?
General household junk, construction and renovation debris, yard waste, furniture, flooring, drywall, and most mixed general debris are all fine. If you're not sure about a specific item, ask when you book and we'll give you a straight answer.
Can I put a refrigerator or air conditioner in the dumpster?
Not as-is. Appliances containing refrigerant need to have that refrigerant recovered by a certified technician before disposal. Let us know ahead of time if one is part of your cleanout so we can advise on the right process.
Can I dispose of paint in the dumpster?
Wet or liquid paint and solvents are not allowed in the container. Dried-out, empty paint cans are generally acceptable, but check with our dispatch team first if you have a large volume.
What happens if prohibited items end up in the dumpster?
Disposal facilities screen incoming loads, and prohibited materials found in a container can result in additional sorting or disposal fees. It's best to keep hazardous items, tires, batteries, propane tanks, and similar materials out of the dumpster entirely and ask us how to handle them separately.
